Experience:

idealab! August 99 - Present

idealab! is a technology company incubator. It takes ideas for innovative
web-based or high-tech companies and uses its own staff of developers,
sysadmins, artists, and others to get the business started very quickly.
idealab! then runs the company until the company hires its own staff and
gets additional funding, at which point the company splits off and becomes
independent. I was hired as a sysadmin to build infrastructure for
idealab! proper, to work with developers building and maintaining websites
for new companies, and to assist the technologists at the daughter
companies once they split off. This last aspect of my job has brought me
into contact with a wide variety of different technologies and has been
one of the most gratifying aspects of working for idealab!.

WeddingChannel January 98 - August 99

The WeddingChannel is a web-based bridal registry. I was hired as a web
developer to build out the functionality of their site as well as build
internal tools to manage the site's content. When the company moved from
managed hosting to its own server clusters, I took on the role of head
sysadmin, creating and maintaining a cluster of linux and solaris servers
running apache, oracle, netscape enterprise server and our own code.

First Quadrant, L.P. Aug 97 - December 97

First Quadrant is a multi-billion dollar financial manager, and I was
hired as a programming resource for their accounting department. My main
task was to write an automated system to reconcile their monthly records
of holdings and transactions to the records from various custodian banks
and brokers.
